The invention relates to a process for the production of glass bottles from a short gob, in which the gob is extended mechanically in at low mould to such an extent that the outer base of the extended gob is in the region of the base of the blow mould, but does not touch the latter, after which the extended gob is expanded by vacuum on its outside and/or by compressed air in its inside, and the blown bottle is subsequently removed from the blow mould.
