In a plug-sleeve connection (40) for one or more pipes or pipe elements which can be inserted in a sealed manner into a sleeve body, an annular-groove-like chamber (10) for holding a retaining element is provided in the front region of the sleeve body (5). The retaining element (30), which is assembled from individual parts (31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36) which are constructed like segments, is retained in the chamber by an elastic retaining ring (15). Each part is supported by a suitably constructed head section (20) so that it can pivot on the outer circumferential surface (13) of the chamber and, on the side facing the pipe end surface, has a foot section (28) which is provided with a first cutting edge (27) and a second cutting edge (19) which is arranged at a distance therefrom. The inserted pipe is essentially retained by the first cutting edge (27) which encloses the pipe end (1) like a cutting ring and, when the internal pressure increases, is also retained by the second cutting edge (19), excessively deep cutting in of the first cutting edge being prevented by the engagement of the second cutting edge. <IMAGE>
