The invention relates to a machine for the transfer, layer by layer, of unit loads between deposition areas, close to the floor, for the layers and the pallet and vice versa, with two slides which can be moved vertically on two perpendicular masts, a lifting frame which can be moved horizontally on the slides from its one extreme position into the other and a carriage which can be moved longitudinally at the same time on this lifting frame from its one end position into the other and has a layer gripper. On this machine, the lifting frame and carriage are moved by a single driving crank which is arranged together with the crankshaft in the perpendicular longitudinal central plane of the machine and the two rollers of which, arranged at different distances from the crankshaft, engage from above in slotted guides which can move away one above the other, the driving crank being bent at right angles through the slotted guide of the lifting frame and the perpendicular right-angled web carrying the bearing for the roller of the lifting frame.
