摘要 Disclosed is a method for operating an internal combustion engine (10) that has at least one cylinder row (11a, 11b) formed with multiple cylinders (12a, 12b). A first exhaust-gas turbocharger (13a, 13b) and a second exhaust-gas turbocharger (14a, 14b) are assigned to each cylinder row (11a, 11b). During a single-charger operation of the respective cylinder row (11a, 11b), air charging for the cylinders (12a, 12b) is provided exclusively by the respective first exhaust-gas turbocharger (13a, 13b) of each cylinder row (11a, 11b), and during a two-charge operation of the respective cylinder row (11a, 11b), the air charging for the cylinders (12a, 12b) is provided by both the first exhaust-gas turbocharger (13a, 13b) and the second exhaust-gas turbocharger (14a, 14b) of the cylinder row (11a, 11b). For a switch from the single-charge operation to the two-charge operation of each cylinder row (11a, 11b) above a load threshold value of the internal combustion engine (10), a charge pressure or an intake pipe pressure is increased first in preparation for the switch when a speed of the internal combustion engine (10) reaches or exceeds a threshold value while a torque reserve and a charge pressure reserve are built up and a driver demand torque is maintained. When the charge pressure reaches or exceeds a threshold value, the switch from single-charger operation to two-charger operation is made, and subsequently, the torque reserve and the charge-pressure reserve are eliminated.
