PURPOSE:To achieve a magnetic recording medium with high performance by forming a magnetic film of high coercive magnetic force on a high polymer support with comparatively lower heat resistance, by forming Bi layers on a nonmagnetic support in discontinuous islands and a metallic magnetic thin film thereon. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer film with comparatively lower heat resistance such as polyethylene terephthalate is used as a support 1, Bi is vapor-deposited on the major plane as discontinuous islands 2 and a background layer 2 is formed. Next, a metallic magnetic layer 3 such as Co covering the entire surface of an exposed part of the layer 2 and the support 1 is formed to make a magnetic recording medium 4. The islands 2 can be formed by vapor deposition of Bi at the temperature from 130 deg.C to the melting point of Bi. Since the support 1 is hardly deformed through indirect contact of metallic particles at high temperatures due to forming of the layer 3 next, plastic can be used. Thus, a magnetic recording medium suitable for a disc of magnetic isotropy with high coercive force can be obtained. |
