PURPOSE:The titled raw pitch of low softening temp. capable of easily forming mesophase in the preparation of precursor pitch, which is prepd. by mixing a heavy oil produced as a byproduct in the steam cracking of a petroleum with a nucleus-hydrogenated arom. hydrocarbon and thermally treating the resulting mixt. under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:10-200vol% nucleus-hydrogenated compd. from a di-or tricyclic arom. hydrocarbon such as tetralin or dihydroanthracene is added to 100vol% heavy oil of b.p. >=200 deg.C produced as a byproduct in the preparation of ethylene, propylene, etc. by the steam cracking of a petroleum such as naphtha at about 700-1,200 deg.C, and the obtd. mixt. is thermally treated at 370-480 deg.C under a pressure of 2-50kg/cm<2> for 15min-20hr, to obtain raw pitch for carbon fiber. |
