The packing is for growing plants, particularly ornamental ones, and comprises a trough-shaped container (1) of stiff flat material for the plant, and a sack-type support of transparent material (4) enclosing the container. One or more of the container sides can be extended upwards, and can be U-shaped (2,3). In plan view, the container can be a narrow rectangle, with the U-shaped walls at the ends. The walls of the sack-type support can be welded together at a point (5) a set distance above the container, the weld seam running for part of their length.
