Imidazoles I (R1,R2,R3 = H, alkyl, Ph; X1,X2,X3 = alkyl, halo, NO2, CF3, CN, alkylthio, alkoxy; n1,n2,n3 = 0, 1, 2) were prepd. Thus, o-chlorophenyldiphenylmethanol was refluxed with imidazole in the presence of (PhO)2POH in pyridine, which was eliminated from reactant under reduced pressure and the residue was extracted with dichloromethane, washed and dried to give 1-(o-chlorophenyldiphenylmethyl)imidazole(yield 71.8%, m.p. 142-3≦̸C).
