<p>A machine for applying and spreading butter, marmalade, honey etc. on individual slices of toast, bread or rusks. The machine comprises a horizontal, push-bar conveyor. Transverse push-bars advance a series of slices in single file beneath a paste dispensing head which comprises a reservoir charged with butter etc. The base of the reservoir has at least one orifice through which butter is released when the orifice is opened by retracted of a reciprocating valve plate. A common drive mechanism for the conveyor and valve plate linkage is adjustable to ensure synchronisation between the period during which the valve plates are open and the passage of a slice beneath the orifice. The machine pref. includes means for pushing the butter towards the reservoir outlet orifice. These means pref. comprise a piston advanced by the common drive mechanism. The conveyor band can be equipped with push-bars curved in the arc of a circle to engage positively slices cut from a loaf of circular cross-section.</p> |
