PURPOSE:To increase an effective part of use of an ink ribbon and thereby prolong the lifetime thereof by a constitution enabling the transfer of the ink ribbon in the direction of the width thereof in a printer wherein printing is performed on a booklet through the intermediary of the ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon cassette 6, which contains an endless ink ribbon 5 having the width nearly twice as large as the size of a printing head 3, is fitted to a holder 11. When a solenoid 21 is magnetized an operating lever 22 moves to maintain the holder 11 in a state that it is displaced by rotation around a rotary shaft 20. The solenoid 21 is contituted so that it is magnetized or demagnetized according to the number of lines to be printed in a passbook P, and it is magnetized on an odd-numbered line, for instance, and a part of the ink ribbon 5 on the rear side in the conveying direction of a conveying path 1 therefor is employed, while it is demagnetized on an even-numbered line and a part of the ribbon on the front side in the conveying direction of the path is employed. In addition, when a line to be printed is located near a seam (a), magnetization or demagnetization is conducted so that the ink ribbon 5 is transferred in the opposite direction to the seam (a) whether the line is odd or even. |
