Air vent for fluid pipework - has asymmetrical float chamber and inclined vent nozzle

The air eliminator has a float chamber with the lower half (2) slotted to the pipe and an upper half (1) which is generally hemispherical. The float (5) consists of a plastic-coated metal sphere. The air vent nozzle (10) is inclined to the vertical axis and offset from the vertical centreline by a distance (L). The lower end (11) of the vent nozzle forms the seat on which the float seals. Two projections (12) on the same pitch circle as the nozzle ensure the centralisation of the float in the closed position. When air collects in the chamber the float first pivots about the nozzle seat (11) before coming to rest on the projection (13) in the lower half.
