In this mounting, two concentric rings (11, 15) each carry a diametrically arranged torsion bar (18, 19). The two torsion bars (18, 19) are arranged at right angles to one another. The outer ring (11) is held rotatably on lugs (26, 27) of the inner ring (15). The torsion bar (18) of the outer ring (11) is secured against rotation and the torsion bar (19) of the inner ring (15) is likewise secured against rotation, by means of bearing pedestals (30, 31) and a pin (32) on a bracket (14). When the mounting is used for chairs, the outer ring (11) can be attached to the seat (10) and the inner ring (15) to the foot (12) of the chair. The seat (10) can thereby be held resiliently in a chosen position when the floor on which it is standing moves, as, for example, on a ship. The use of torsion bars permits a robust construction, in which the noises of tension springs are eliminated.
