A device for automatically controlling the suction power of a suction cleaner, in which at least one pressure-sensitive vacuum switch is arranged in the vacuum region of the suction cleaner in such a way that, depending on the variation of the air pressure due to external operating conditions, a contact closure results which leads to a switch-over of the speed control range of the suction cleaner motor. The switch-over of the respective suction power takes place in stages, preferably two pressure-sensitive switches being provided which each have three contacts.
