Circuit breaker operating mechanism with close and trip springs - uses tension adjuster for matching closing spring to a range of switches

The principal objective is to have springs which will suit a range of circuit breakers. A further aim is to simplify the trip arrangement. The closing spring is enclosed in a cylinder. One end of the spring is attached to a lever connected to the operating spindle. The other end hooks through an eyebolt whose free end passes through a fixed plate. A nut on the end of the bolt provides the means for adjusting the spring tension. The trip spring acts on a lever attached to the spindle. In the closed state a linkage acts as a latch to block tripping. To trip the spindle is turned slightly counter-clockwise. A pin on the linkage lifts allowing a follower to turn and release the lock.
