<p>Electrostatic precipitator with a discharge electrode (16) having dimensional and configuration characteristics which provide high field strength and high current density particularly in a wet electrostatic precipitator. The round cylindrical collector tube (10) of length (L) and an inner diameter (D) has a coaxially positioned discharge electrode (16) having an electrode supporting mast (20) of a diameter from .25 to .40D with an electrically conducting closed screw flight (22) secured to the mast (20). The screw flight (22) has an overall diameter (d) of from .33-.67D with a pitch of from (D-d)/2 to D-d and an overall length of one screw revolution to L-(D-d), preferably one-half L or less and most preferably one to two revolutions. The short screw flight (22) is economical and readily adjusted. The screw flight (22) has a thickness of from about .05 to .15 inch and has a symmetrically curved outer edge (22a). The collector tube (10) is flared at its lower end (32) to direct water away from the electrode mast (20) as the water is discharged from the tube (10). The discharge electrode (16) is supported from above and centered by means of adjustable tie rods (28) at its lower end (20a).</p> |
