In a punching tool with a plurality of punches for the simultaneous piercing of workpieces in the form of boards, the individual punches are mounted displaceably in a punch-holding plate and engage in sliding fashion in those through-holes of a punching template arranged above them in which no index pins have been inserted. When the head part of the tool descends, the punches are pressed onto the board to be pierced by a plate which presses on the index pins, piercing being effected by interaction with a die plate. The punches displaceable in the punching template are, in contrast, pushed into the free punching space. Punching out of the corresponding holes is not possible. In order to allow rapid changing of the index pin configuration of the punching template, both the punching template and the punching pressure plate arranged above it are mounted in a manner which allows them to be pushed in in a guide slot in the head part of the tool. The pressure plate is somewhat thicker than the punching template, allowing the punching template to be lifted off from the pushed-in punches and removed after the pressure plate has been pulled out.
