<p>The arrangement is for a once-only used liquid metal sampling unit having a plug which is carried at the end of a sampling probe and holds a two-part metal bottle at one end. The bottle connects with the other end of the plug via a quartz tube which extends through a bore in the plug into a mixing chamber defined by the lowest of three superimposed caps. The tube end in the chamber is covered by a closure cap in a material which melts or dissolves at the temp. of the liquid metal being sampled. The end face of the plug forming the bottom of the chamber is pref. recessed around the tube end. Useful esp. in a pig iron melt or a melt containing additions such as cerium. (Fl).</p> |
