A motor vehicle transmission apparatus comprises a torque convertor (3) and a coupling member (9-1) arranged to be coupled to transmit output torque of an internal combustion engine (1) to a driving wheel (2) of the vehicle by changeover operation of an operation lever (10) from a neutral position of the lever, and a coupling-preventive mechanism (16) arranged to be operated when a throttle valve (15) of the engine in its engine idling open position to prevent coupling operation of the coupling member. The coupling-preventive mechanism (16) is provided with a change-over mechanism (37) operable from a driver's seat for changing-over the coupling-preventive mechanism (16) from a normal condition in which this mechanism (16) is operable, to a rest condition in which this mechanism (16) is inoperable. In this apparatus operation of the coupling-preventive mechanism (16) serves to prevent creep, but this mechanism can be rendered inoperative in circumstances when it is useful to have creep.
