Use of one or more alkyl substituted benzyl cyanides having the formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="31" wi="66" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>in which R, and R<Sub>z</Sub> each may represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R<Sub>3</Sub> represents a branched alkyl group having at most 6 carbon atoms as a perfume component in perfume compositions and in imparting perfume notes to articles for example soaps, cleaning preparations and cosmetic compositions.
