PURPOSE:To ensure sealing, by tightening a metal band on the peripheral surface of a seal covering the end of a honeycomb catalyst and by welding the metal band on a casing. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb catalyst 5 is covered with a queer net 6. The end of the catalyst 5 is covered with a seal 4. A metal band 7 is tightened on the peripheral surface of the seal 4 and then secured. A catalyst unit is thus prepared. After the catalyst unit is inserted with buffer rings 8, 10 in between an inlet housing 9 and a converter housing 2, the metal band 7 and the converter housing are welded on each other. According to this constitution, the leakage of exhaust gas is prevented by the metal band 7 even if the housings 9, 2 move. |
