PURPOSE:To remove mercury from mercury-contng. waste water to a level regulated under an environmental standard, by filtering the mercury-contg. waste water, after subjected to coagulating sedimentation, with a sand layer, adding an oxidizing agent to the filtered water, filtering the water again, and then letting the treated water flow through a chelating resin column. CONSTITUTION:Mercury-contng. waste water is introduced through a line 1 into a coagulating sedimentation vessel 2, where an inorganic flocculant is added through a line (a). In addition, a pH controller is added to the waste water through a line (b) to adjust the waste water at pH 10-11, and an organic flocculant is added through a line (c). Thereafter, sludge is separated in a sedimentation pool 3, and overflow water is carried into the first-stage sand filter column 4, where suspended solids are removed from the liquid. An oxidizing agent is then added to the liquid in an oxidizing vessel 5 througn a line (d), to oxidize and decompose organic substance and colloidal mercury in the liquid. Thereafter, the solution is filtered in the second-stage sand filter column 6 and carried into a chelating resin column 7 to remove mercury. The purified water is drained through a line 8 outside the system. |
