<p>PURPOSE:To form a liq. crystal display element with high light transmittance by using polyimide obtd. by polycondensing a polybasic acid halide with a specified compound contg. nitrogen as the material of an orientation controlling film. CONSTITUTION:A di-, tri- or tetrabasic acid halide (A) such as isophthalic acid halide or pyromellitic acid halide is polycondensed with >=1 kind of compound (B) selected from dibasic acid hydrazide compounds such as isophthalic acid dihydrazide, diaminomonocarbonamine compounds such as 4, 4'-diaminodiphenyl- ether-3-carbonamide and diamine compounds such as p-phenylenediamine (the combination of a dibasic acid hydrazide compound with a diamine compound is excluded) by agitation in an org. solvent such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidione at about 10 deg.C for several hr. The resulting polymer soln. is diluted to about 5- 10wt% concn., and the diluted soln. is applied to a substrate and calcined at about 150-300 deg.C to form an orientation controlling film.</p> |
