PREPARATION OF PLASTIC ARTICLE HAVING THIN OPTICAL FILM

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for heating a substrate prior to evaporation and to obviate yellowing of the substrate by projecting an ion beam to the surface of a plastic article before said article is coated with a thin optical film. CONSTITUTION:The ion beam is projected to the surface of the plastic article before said article is coated with the thin optical film in the process for preparing the plastic article having the thin optical film by coating the surface of the plastic article with the thin optical film consisting of an inorg. material by vacuum evaporation. Only the surface layer of the substrate is heated and the moisture removal or gas venting on the substrate surface is effectively executed. The yellowing of the substrate is thereby decreased to the lower level than in a method for heating the entire part of the substrate by using a heater.
