PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of information transferred to a computer, by chopping output dot data from a sensor as dot patterns in prescribed unit planes and coding them in accordance with model pattern data. CONSTITUTION:When a drawing 1 is moved in the direction of an arrow Y, the surface of the drawing 1 is read by a sensor 2. Dot data from the sensor 2 are taken into a memory 5 successively. When the quantity of dot data in a memory storage part corresponding to each photocell 3 becomes the quantity of dot pattern data in a preliminarily set unit plane of the drawing 1, dot pattern data corresponding to unit planes of section parts 51-5n are taken out into a comparing circuit 7. Transferred dot pattern data are compared with model patterns stored in an ROM8 by the circuit 7; and if a model pattern corresponding to the input dot pattern exists, a pattern code coded in accordance with model pattern data is taken out. |
