The lid (1) has a hooking element (6) which engages behind the edge reinforcement of a container. Hooked latches (8) which are arranged resiliently opposite the hooking element (6) consist of a part of the outer lid edge (2) and are provided for engaging behind the edge reinforcement. Seen around the outer circumference of the lid (1), the latches (8) are arranged with a mutual smaller spacing (A) of their facing ends (8b) corresponding at least to the span of a child's hand and preferably larger than such a span. Since, even when using both hands, a child cannot grip over the circumference of a container in order to actuate the latches (8) simultaneously, a lid with a child safeguard is provided, e.g. for box-like or drum-like containers. <IMAGE>
