PURPOSE:To obtain 1-4C aliphatic hydrocarbon consisting of methane essentially and/or a 1-4C aliphatic alcohol consisting of methanol or ethanol, by reacting CO with H2 in the presence of an easily preparable and recoverable rhenim catalyst. CONSTITUTION:CO is reacted with H2 in the presence of a rhenium catalyst to give a lower hydrocarbon and/or a lower alocohol. Metallic rhenium, rhenium oxide, rhenium trichloride or ammonium perrhenate, is preferred as the rhenium, and these are preferably supported on a carrier, e.g. a slightly reductive metalllic oxide, e.g. an oxide of Zn, Al, La, Si, Ge or Ti, in an amount of 1-20wt% expressed in terms of Re2O7, and reduced at 200-300 deg.C for reuse. The reaction is carried out at a molar ratio between the CO and H2 of 1:(1-5), and at 200- 350 deg.C and 10-150kg/cm<2>. |
