The remote control transmitter, shown in a block diagram in Figure 1, for transmitting IR remote control signals essentially consists of an input keypad (2), a microcomputer (1), a voltage supply circuit (31) with a battery (UB), a reference element (7) and an output stage (32). The voltage of the battery (UB) is 9 V. Since the microcomputer (1) only needs a voltage supply of 5 V, a simple external circuit is to be found which divides down the battery voltage. At the same time, the external circuit is to be used for reducing the load on the battery to a minimum when the keys are not operated. This is achieved by the microcomputer (1) continuously being connected to the positive terminal of the battery (UB) and the negative pole only being connected to the input keypad (2) when a key is operated. The supply voltage present at the microcomputer (1) is derived from a reference element (7) and stabilized. <IMAGE>
