The invention relates to a method of producing radial control splines, in particular Hirth-type serrations, with a universal milling machine or a single-purpose machine. The invention, then, is to be seen in the fact that a material point of the cutter forming the surface is moved on the circumference of an oblique-angled circular cylinder (7), the base area (9) of the oblique-angled circular cylinder is placed in a plane (10) defined by the tooth-gap edges (5, 5a) of two opposite tooth flanks (6, 6a), the relative position of the cutter and the workpiece is set in such a way that a main spindle, holding the cutter, of the machine tool is set perpendicularly to the plane of the opposite tooth flanks, and the generating line and the guide line of the opposite tooth flanks are produced according to the track-line method, the opposite tooth flanks being touched by the oblique-angled circular cylinder along one line each of the tooth flanks. The invention permits simpler, less expensive and more accurate production of control splines. <IMAGE>
