The stretcher for use e.g. with an ambulance consists of tubular side members (4,5), joined by U-shaped cross-members (47) and mounted on wheels (30). The stretcher has a hinged backrest (26) fitted with a pillow (11). The patient is secured to the main part of the stretcher by a strap (24) and to the backrest (26) by another strap (23). The backrest strap (23), holding the patient to the pillow, has two other straps (10,13) attached to it, which pass over the end of the pillow and are attached to the backrest frame. These additional straps prevent any longitudinal movement of the patient which might occur, e.g. during violent braking of the ambulance, or when travelling over very uneven surfaces. The pillow is also secured by additional side straps (16,17). |
