The invention relates to a hardening device, which is composed of external (1) and/or internal segments (11). These segments are movable. These segments are driven by means of a planar thread (3) which combines with a ring gear (4) and a drive pinion (5) to form a single assembly. In this device, the segments are divided up into lower parts (6) which engage into the planar thread (3) and are guided in the body of the device, and upper parts (7) which are fastened to the lower parts (6) and have a shape which matches the workpieces. As the upper parts (7) can be easily replaced, they can be exchanged to match the different workpieces. The number of segments in the device can be selected to meet the requirements of the workpieces. <IMAGE>
