The present invention relates to a mouthwash concentrate which contains about 10 to about 80% by weight of propylene glycol monomethyl ether and/or propylene glycol monoethyl ether as complete or partial substitute for the ethanol or n-propanol normally present in these products. It is possible by using these substances considerably to reduce the mucosal irritation of the undiluted mouthwash concentrate.
