Process for conditioning radioactive waste materials

It is known to compress combustible waste materials of low radioactivity by a press in order to reduce the waste volume. According to the invention, the waste materials are comminuted and mixed before the compression. A uniformly distributed content of thermoplastics of at least 5 to 10%, at a compression force of 120-1200 N/cm<2> and pressing temperatures of 100 to 200 DEG C, gives dimensionally stable pressed pieces with a reduction in volume at least twice as large as in known processes.
