PURPOSE:To increase the rate of negative electrode utilization to improve cycling performance by forming a cadmium layer on one side of a separator and forcing this layer to make close contact with a zinc negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a battery formed with combination a positive electrode 3 such as a nickel electrode, a zinc negative electrode 1, and a separator 5, the separator 5 consists of a microporous sheet such as polypropylene, and a cadmium layer 6 is formed on its one surface, while this layer 6 is arranged to touch the zinc negative electrode 1. The second separator 7 is allowed to make contact with the positive electrode 3. The negative electrode 1 is formed in such a way that for example, 80wt% zinc oxide powder, 10wt% zinc powder, 5wt% cadmium oxide acting as an additive, 5wt% fluorine resin are mixed, kneaded with water, subsequently coated onto a conductive core body 2, thereafter dried. Thus, elution of a zincate ion during discharge is extremely small, therefore, formation of zinc dendrite during charge is small, and decrease of zinc concentration on a zinc electrode surface can be suppressed. This increase the rate of negative electrode utilization to improve cycling performance and capacity of a battery. |
