NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is 1-4C alkyl; R2 and R3 are -H or methyl). EXAMPLE:2-(p-Methoxycarbonylphenoxy)-ethylamine. USE:An intermediate for medicines or photographic chemicals. PREPARATION:An alkoxycarbonyl-substituted phenol expressed by formula II, e.g. o-hydroxymethyl benzoate, etc., is reacted with an alkyleneimine expressed by formula III, e.g. ethyleneimine, etc., in the liquid phase using an aromatic hydrocarbon based solvent, e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, etc., as a diluent to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The molar ratio of the raw materials in the reaction is as follows. The compound expressed by formula II is preferably used in an excess amount based on the compound expressed by formula III. The compound expressed by formula II is more preferably used in an amount of 1-3mol based on 1mol compound expressed by formula III from the viewpoint of recovery and reutilization.
