ROW OF CONTINUOUS SLIDE FASTENER COUPLING ELEMENTS AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME

A row of continuous slide fastener coupling elements is in the form of a filamentary coil or zigzag made of thermoplastic synthetic resin. Each coupling element has a coupling head, a pair of legs extending from the coupling head, and, with the exception of endmost elements, a pair of connectors located remotely from the coupling head and extending each between the respective one of the legs and a respective leg of an adjacent coupling head. The connector is heat-set by locally subjecting at least a portion of same facing away from the coupling heads to a relatively high heat-setting temperature, preferably only slightly below the melting point of the filament, while the rest of the filamentary coil is only subjected to a relatively low heat-setting temperature. A method of manufacturing a row of such continuous slide fastener coupling elements is also disclosed and claimed. The invention provides the advance of improved stabilization of the pitch of the fastener and of a reduced production cost.
