PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of damage due to overheating of an electromagnetic mechanism, by a method wherein, in a motor-operated typewriter, the electromagnetic mechanism for controlling a return operation of a carriage is released by using the moving signal of the carriage in combination with a timer. CONSTITUTION:With a carriage return key operated, a solenoid 20 is excited to couple a clutch 16, and a return belt 21 is wound to start a return action of a carriage 2. A timer in a control circuit also starts thereupon. A margin stopper 24 of a margin crack 23 secured to a side frame 2a of the carriage moves in a direction of an arrow mark through the return operation of the carriage. If a hook part 27a of a stopper 27 on a base plate 26 moves leftward from a neutral position, a left lead switch 31 sends an electric signal to a control circuit, and the solenoid is released from excitation by means of said signal. In case a return motion is hindered owing to some reason, the solenoid is released from excitation by means of a timer mechanism in a control circuit. |
