A method of mounting containers on board ships is proposed, which containers are designed as rotational bodies with a perpendicular axis and have in the supporting plane an outer disc ring with at least one extension on the underside, the disc ring being put on one or more cylindrical aprons and being welded to these aprons. Here, the joint area between disc ring and apron is to be prestressed uniformly and in the opposite direction to the loads to be expected in operation and resulting from dead weight and cargo weight as well as thermal stresses.
