Data checking system for angular position detector - has toothed wheel with proximity detectors providing quadrature signals and sequential logic circuit detecting error condition

The device is used to check data obtained in the measurement of the position of the rotary component. The rotary component is fitted with a toothed wheel (1) which is directly driven by the rotary component. The device contains two proximity detectors (3,4) which detect the passing of the teeth, which detectors (3,4) give quadrature signals. Another detector (5) detects a pin (2) on the wheel (1) and gives a signal when neither of the other two detectors (3,4) gives one. An electronic circuit (6) constructed using sequential logic recognises the signal sequences transmitted by the detectors (3,4,5) and it delivers an alarm or stop signal (7) in case of abnormality. The device checks sequences of binary numbers, and may be used in machine tool control systems.
