The fluid level meter has a float on the end of a pivoted rod mounted inside the tank. The rod turns a shaft by means of a pair of bevel gears, the shaft motion being passed through the wall of the tank by means of a magnetic coupling. The outside shaft turns a disc on which a magnet is mounted. The magnet operates one or two of a series of reed switches, mounted on a fixed disc. The switches short out sections of a resistive chain, which is connected to a circuit which lights one of the light-emitting diodes on the control panel to indicate the amount of gas in the tank. When the tank is nearly empty, the last diode starts to flash on and off to attract the user's attention.
