<p>PURPOSE:To read written characters etc. correctly by thinning the background part of a quantized character pattern converted to electric singals until the line width becomes 1, and scanning the thinned pattern from upper, lower, left and right frames and thereby detecting predetermined characteristics and extracting characteristic vector and characteristic information. CONSTITUTION:Characters written on a slip is scanned, and light input signals 11 are outputtd from a sensor. The signals 11 are converted to electric signals by a photoelectric trasducer 1, and the character pattern by the electric signals is converted to a quantized pattern of 0.1. A frame of width 1 is added by the same signal with the character part of the quantized pattern and stored in a quantized pattern storage section 3. The background part of the quantized pattern stored in the storage section is thinned by a line thinning device 4 until it becomes line width 1. The thinned pattern is scanned from upper, lower, left and right frames, and predetermined specified point is detected by a characteristic extracting device 5. Characteristic vector and characteristic information are extracted from the characteristic point. Hand written characters etc. are discriminated correctly by a discriminating device 6 basing on the extracted vector and information.</p> |
