PURPOSE:To improve a cooling effect by forming a cooling roll in such a way as to delineate and seal the inside hollow part of the roll with a cylindrical shell and side walls in the edge parts on both sides of the cylindrical shell and constituting these in such a way that cooling water is flowed from one axial direction to the other axial direction through a revolving shaft extending in the axial direction of the cooling roll. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal is ejected and supplied to the revolving surface of a cooling roll 1, and is quickly cooled and solidified, whereby an amorphous metallic strip is produced. Said roll 1 is so provided that the inside hollow part 10 of the roll is delineated and sealed from the outside by a cylindrical shell 2 assuming a revolving surface and side walls 3, 4 which are fixed to the end parts on both sides of the shell 2. A guide plate 14 of a constant width forming cooling water flow holes 16 toward the generator direction of the inside surface of the shell 2 is supported like a bridge on at least one of the side walls 3, 4, and cooling water flow passages 6a, 7a are provided to the revolving shafts 6, 7 extended in both axial direction from the walls 3, 4. Thereupon, the cooling water is flowed from one axial direction to the other axial direction into the cooling roll 1. |
