<p>The prod. is tumbled in a power-driven, horizontal cylindrical, rotary drum. Air is blown into the drum to dry the coated prod. The shell of the drum is perforated overall and air is blown through a hood covering an arc in the lower part of the drum. This air passes through the perforations and through the mass of prod. in the tumbling position adopted by the prod. During drum rotation. A washing tank is fitted under the drum. The drum, which has discharge ports at one end, pref. has a pneumatic tilting cylinder underneath the other end of the drum. The wash tank is also pivoted at one end and can be displaced by another pneumatic cylinder to make way for the drum to be tilted. The interior of the drum is pref. equipped with angled blades to promote agitation and tumbling of the prod. The machine can be used for sugar-coating confectionery dragees, pharmaceutical pills etc. The machine is economical in that it can coat and dry a higher throughput of prod. than previous machines of similar size and power consumption. The prod. is tumbled with air lubrication which prevents prod. damage.</p> |
