<p>The marine vessel with its hull supported by a float (2,3) each side, has each float attached by supports (4,5) which slope outwards above the water level for normal travel. These supports are retractable, so that the floats can be moved inwards, adjacent to the sides of the hull for manoeuvring when in harbour. The supports can be controlled hydraulically, and the hydraulic cylinders etc., are operated by a central unit controlled by diesel engines. These engines are also used to drive propellers at the ends of the floats. The hydraulic drive system can also be used for raising and lowering the sails, lowering the masts to a horizontal position and rotating them about their vertical axes.</p> |
