PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of pesticides, etc., in high yield, by the thermal decomposition of a carbamic acid ester in a specific solvent in the presence of a catalyst the carbide or nitride of the element of carbon-group except C, titanium-group, vanadium-group and chromium- group. CONSTITUTION:An isocyanate is prepared by the thermal decomposition of a carbamic acid ester (e.g. methyl carbanylate) in a solvent which is inert to the isocyanate and is essentially non-solvent of the catalyst, e.g. hexane, heptane, etc., preferably in an inert gas atmosphere at 100-350 deg.C, in the presence of a catalyst containing one or more compounds selected from the carbide and nitride of the element of carbon-group except C, titanium-group, vanadium-group and chromium-group (e.g. SiC, TiC, ZrC, Si3N4, Ge3N4, TiN, etc.). EFFECT:The catalyst can be separated easily from the product, and the production of by-products can be suppressed. |
