The invention relates to a regulating device known per se for the automatic adjustment of the transmission ratio in an infinitely variable hydrostatic transmission in the drive for a machine as a function of the working pressure of the transmission. The aim of the invention is to design a regulating device of this kind in such a way that on the one hand the machine is protected from overloads but that, at the same time, the best possible use is made of the capacity of the machine concerned and hence the productivity of the latter is increased. This object has been achieved by the insertion, in the control circuit consisting of a desired speed transmitter for the output speed of the transmission, a controller and an electromechanical adjusting device for the delivery rate of the pump component of the transmission, of a time-delay relay with an adjustable delay time which interrupts the control circuit when the selected maximum permissible working pressure in the transmission is exceeded and at the same time initiates an adjustment of the adjusting device in the direction of the zero position of the transmission ratio in the transmission, while on the expiry of a selected delay time said relay closes the control circuit again automatically and thereby initiates an adjusting movement in the direction of an increase in the output speed of the hydrostatic transmission until the set desired value for the maximum permissible working pressure is exceeded again.
