PURPOSE:To keep the display quality high over a long term by coating the opposite insides of the glass substrates with SiO2 films to prevent the diffusion of alkali ions from the substrate glass. CONSTITUTION:SiO2 films 9 are formed on the opposite insides of substrates 1, 2 made of soda lime glass, and the substrate 1 provided with a display electrode 3 is composed of the glass, the SiO2 film and the electrically conductive transparent film. Thus, the substrate glass 1, 2 is isolated from the interface between a WO3 film and the electrically conductive transparent film and from an electrolyte 7 to prevent the dissolution of the WO3 film due to the diffusion of alkali ions such as Na<+>. Accordingly, the electrochromic display quality can be kept high over a long term. |
