PURPOSE:To record information on a crystal or thin film consisting of a compound oxide including Bi2O3, by forming a color center on this crystal or thin film and changing the optical characteristic. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam (wavelength 4579Angstrom ) from an Ar laser light source 5 is condensed through a dichroic reflective mirror 8 by a lens 9 while having the intensity modulated by a modulator 6 and is irradiated to a plate 10 consisting of Bi12SiO20 single crystal which is put on a transparent plate 11 rotated by a motor 14, and then, color centers are formed successively on the surface of the plate 10 to record information. The output of the laser light source 5 is lowered to make the oscillation wavelength 5145Angstrom , and the light transmitted through the plate 10 is condensed by a lens 12, and information is read out by a photodetector 13. The laser beam from a low-output YAG laser light source or semiconductor laser light source 4 is irradiated to color centers through a dichroic reflective mirror 7 and the lens 9 to heat the plate 10, and information is erased. |
