PURPOSE:To make the end face of a bundle of optical fibers airtight and to prevent the end face from being burnt by heat ray, by inserting many optical fibers into a hollow member and applying an adhesive to bind them tightly. CONSTITUTION:Every plural optical fibers are inserted manually into a comparatively thin pipe-shaped hollow member such as a mouthpiece 1 made of brass or stainless, and the inside of the mouthpiece is filled up with optical fibers, and a bundle 3 of optical fibers where a tip 3a of the bundle of optical fibers is protruded from an end face 1b of mouthpiece is formed. After a thermally hardening adhesive is applied and charged to spaces betweeen optical fibers of the tip 3a and the outside circumference of the bundle of optical fibers, the bundle 3 of optical fibers is pulled to the left to draw a part of the tip 3a of the bundle of optical fibers to draw a part of the tip 3a of the bundle of optical fibers to the approximate middle of the mouthpiece 1. Next, a narrow wire 5 is wound around the bundle of optical fibers several times at some distance from the end face 1b of the mouthpiece to fix optical fibers, and the tip 3a of the bundle of optical fibers is hardened by heating and is fixed. Next, the bundle of optical fibers is cut in the position, which is indicated by the one-dot broken line, <=1mm. off the end face 1b of the mouthpiece together with the tightly bound part, and the cut end face is polished optically. |
