PURPOSE:The catalytic hydrogenation of a furan is conducted in trifluoroacetic acid or a carboxylic acid containing trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of palladium catalyst to produce a beta-acyloxytetrahydrofuran derivative used as an agicultural chemical. CONSTITUTION:The catalytic hydrogenation of a compound of formulaI(R1, R2 are H, halogen, COOH, alkyl or aryl, which may be substituted) is conducted in trifuloroacetic acid or a carboxylic acid of R3COOH (R3 is alkyl or aryl which may be substituted) containing trifuoroacetic acid in the presence of a palladium catalyst, preferably palladium on carbon powder catalyst, preferably at 0-30 deg.C under normal pressure to produce the compound of formula II (R4 is R3COO), which is used as a fungicide, insecticide, other agricultural chnicals, or a component of natural perfume with a terpene skelton or food flavor, i.e., fruit flavor. |
