Detergent compsns. comprise (a) 5-60 wt.% of detergent-active material, (b) 0-60 (pref. 10-60) wt.% builder, and (c) an effective amt. of an acrylamide or acrylamide/acrylic acid polymer having a "Flowtime Increase Value" (RIV) of at least 50% (pref. at least 100%), where FIV is the percentage increase in the time taken for a standard detergent soln. to flow through a stack of terry-towelling discs when 0.33% of the polymer is added. The polymer pref. has a molecular wt. of at least 2 (esp. at least 3) million; suitable polymers are of the "Crosfloc" and "Superfloc" type. The compsns. pref. contain 0.05-5 (esp. 0.1-0.5) wt.% of the polymer and are used in an amt. sufficient to give a polymer concn. of 5-50 (esp. 5-30) ppm in the wash liquor. The compsns. are esp. useful for hand washing of textiles. Component (c) improves lather properties and fabric feel during washing and improves the ease of use of detergent bars. |
